My approach to counselling
My approach is Integrative which means that I draw on techniques and theory from a number of therapeutic approaches but primarily the Person-Centred approach and CBT. Where appropriate, and with your consent, I also incorporate more creative techniques into our sessions by using sandtray therapy or therapeutic emotion cards, for example. In practice, that means I can tailor your therapy to meet your specific needs in a way that you feel comfortable with.
I offer counselling to clients presenting with a range of emotional and psychological issues such as depression and low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, low confidence, bereavement and loss, issues from the past which are impacting the present, amongst many others. Please do enquire if you'd like more information as to whether I am able to work with whatever issue you are seeking counselling for.
My aim is to provide you with a warm, safe and supportive environment where, together, we can explore the issue(s) that are causing you distress. Warmth, compassion and acceptance run through all aspects of my practice; I am here to listen, and to support and facilitate the change and growth necessary to improve your sense of well-being, purpose and control.
In essence, my role is to give you the space and opportunity to be truly listened to. We will work collaboratively to establish clear goals within a mutually agreed time-frame. Depending on what feels most appropriate we may remain focussed in the present or explore relevant experiences from the past that may be negatively impacting your experiences in the present.
